“Guillaume Paugam” Prize in Economic and Social Sciences

General presentation

The “Guillaume Paugam” Prize in Economic and Social Sciences is an educational initiative led by Collège du Léman (Geneva). It aims to promote academic excellence, critical thinking, creativity and international openness among secondary-school pupils studying economic and social sciences.

Spirit and values

The Prize pays tribute to the career, values and personality of Guillaume Paugam (1997-2025), a former pupil of Collège du Léman, French and British citizen, graduate of the London School of Economics and Doctor (PhD) of the University of Oxford. It highlights academic excellence, European and international openness, civic and social engagement, intellectual curiosity and artistic sensitivity (stand-up, music), as well as a passion for football and sports.

Target group and format

The competition is open to francophone pupils in Seconde, Première and Terminale studying economic and social sciences in the regions of Suisse Romande and neighbouring France. Candidates deliver a 10-minute oral presentation on stage, individually or in pairs, in the form of a talk, a scenario or a role-play, before an audience and a three-member jury, based on an issue related to economics, sociology or political science.

Awards

Winners will benefit from brief immersion internship and professional contacts opportunities with partner institutions, both public and private (companies and public agencies, professional organisations, international organisations, embassies…), as well as invitations to cultural, artistic or sporting events in French-speaking Switzerland, France or London.

Organisation

The first edition of the Prize in 2026 will be organised by Collège du Léman (Geneva), which will provide its facilities, with the support of a network of volunteers (family and friends of Guillaume). The event will take place in the premises of a Geneva-based institution (International Organization or equivalent). Other schools from French-speaking Switzerland or members of the AEFE will be invited to participate.
